Stoney Keppel Bison

Posted by 24 Oct, 2008

The Stoney Keppel Bison enterprise is operated by Susan & Jake Forrest and Jean & Bob Evans. It has been six years since they started working with bison, both rearing the animals and marketing the meat products.

Owen Sound Farmers’ Market has been an important part of their marketing strategy for the past two years. Their marketing manager, Susan Forrest, says that it has been an excellent way to introduce the product to new customers and to supply their regular ones.

“The product” includes frozen bison steaks, roasts, patties, lasagna, stew meat, ribs, heart, liver, tongue, sausage, and soup-bones. You can buy a jerky that is homemade, and pepperettes and sausage smoked by their butcher. They also have bison skulls, jaw bones, leg bones available for purchase. Also planned for sale will be bison leather, bison wool, and bison fur robes. T-shirts will also be available.

Orders can be arranged to get whole, half or quarters of bison meat for the home freezer. If someone wishes to order fresh meat, it must be ordered ahead and picked up at the market.
